Grou, an idyllic spot

Grou can be found in the heart of Friesland, and, like several Frisian villages, is especially popular among water sports enthusiasts. Grou is a picturesque village with a lot of sights to see from land and water. Want to sail a little farther out and prefer the open water? From Grou you can easily go to surrounding waters, such as the Sneekermeer. But even when you stay in the neighborhood, it is very special. After all, Grou has historic sights, with surrounding terraces! Grou is known for the presence of Frisian tradition, namely Skûtsjes. These are traditional wooden Frisian ships and symbolize Friesland, but also Grou in particular. An annual competition is also organized for this, called Skûtsjilen, where these boats race against each other.
